This is too much info for a txt and my email list is not with me, so this seemed the best way for me to get the info out to team memebers. IMPORTANT INFO BELOW. -Peter
I have had a few questions about money and how to exchange it in Guatemala. After talking with the missionary there, he suggest we exchange money ahead of time if at all possible. It seems to have become much more difficult exchanging money in GUA and long lines in banks.
I suggest each person exchange minimum of $10-$20 US Dollars for Guatemalan Quetzals (Q) before we leave for the trip. If you wait to do it in Guatemala we are likely to have long lines and low exchange rates (you will lose money). First Security Bank has agreed to exchange money for us before our trip so we (in the church office) need to have the money by or before Monday, July 14th(CASH ONLY PLEASE). By doing the exchange together as a big group, we are combining our moneys and splitting a $25 exchange transaction fee.
You will only need Guatemalan money for a few snacks and things that you wish to buy at local tiendas after you have been working each day (sodas, chips, etc). The markets where we shop and most other places will take US Dollars, but bring that cash in 1’s 5’s and 10’s. However, if you wish to exchange more than $10-$20 we will be able to do that as well.
If you are not going to be able to make the mtg (cause you are on vacation) let me know and we can work something out.
