Trust: we've all given it at some point - to a friend, a spouse, a co-worker, neighbor, leader, pastor, coach, politician...need I go on? Trust: we've all broken it at some point...right?
Trust in our modern English gets muddled. Trust: confidence, expectation, faith, hope, protection...refuge. Too easily we give away our trust, putting confidence in others effortlessly. We get burned and end up trusting no one.
Sadly these 'trust issues' filter into many other of our relationships...including our relationship with the Lord. Because we've given our trust away to the hands of man, when it's time to depend on the faithfulness of the Lord, there can be difficulty.
Here in Psalm 31, David delivers a firm statement on who he chooses to put his trust in...the Lord. As you read on in the Psalm, he tells the Lord, be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress...he's saying, be the one I can anchor to when I'm hanging on for dear life...be the one who will protect me when the attacks and storms of life come. Will you put your trust in the Lord today? Read Psalm 31 and pray to the Lord, ask Him to reveal areas in your life where he is calling for you to trust Him...and by faith, do it!
